Online Metronome

A steady click to practise chord changes, strumming and scales in time.

A metronome keeps a steady beat so you can play in time. Set the BPM (beats per minute), pick the beats per bar and press Start. When you are learning new chord changes, start slow, around 60 BPM.

How to practise with a metronome

  1. Choose a tempo you can play without mistakes. For new chord changes that is often 50–70 BPM.
  2. Play one chord per bar and change on the first (accented) beat.
  3. When you can play eight clean changes in a row, raise the tempo by 5 BPM.
  4. Use "Tap tempo" to match the speed of a song: tap along with the beat four or more times.

FAQ

What BPM should a beginner practise at?

Start at 60 BPM or even slower for new chord changes and strumming patterns. Speed up only when you can play the passage cleanly several times in a row.

What is BPM?

BPM means beats per minute: how many beats the metronome plays in one minute. 60 BPM is one click per second.

Does the metronome work offline?

Once the page has loaded, the metronome keeps working without a connection, because the clicks are generated in your browser.
